  1. Cook the pasta

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the ziti until al dente, 8 to 10 minutes, then drain.

  2. Cook the onion, garlic, and rosemary

    • Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large, heavy skillet over medium heat.
    • Cook the onion until tender, then stir in the rosemary and garlic.
    • Scoop it all into a small bowl.
  3. Brown the meat

Add the ground beef and sausage to the same skillet. Cook over medium-high heat, breaking it up, until evenly browned.

  4. Simmer the sauce

Stir the onion mixture back in along with the spaghetti sauce, and season with salt. Turn the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.

  5. Heat the oven

While the sauce simmers, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  6. Build the first layer

Spread half the pasta in the dish. Top it with the provolone slices, then the sour cream and cottage cheese, then a little less than half of the meat sauce.

  7. Build the second layer

Add the rest of the pasta, then the mozzarella, the remaining meat sauce, and a sprinkle of Parmesan.

  8. Bake

Bake until heated through and the cheese is melted, 20 to 30 minutes.
